Directions for BLOGGING!

Hi everyone -

Below are the details of the BLOG assignment. Enjoy!

For the novel, The Joy Luck Club, create a posting/entry after reading the last 13 chapters. By each due date on our calendar, you should have posted blogs for each of the chapters listed. Each posting will earn you up to 20 points if complete.

Due Dates:these are due by MIDNIGHT on the following dates. Points will be taken off if posts are logged in after midnight. PLAN AHEAD!

12/16/09 = "Moon Lady"
12/31/09 ="Rules of the Game," "The Voice from the Wall," "Half and Half," and "Two Kinds"
1/17/10 = "Rice Husband," "Four Directions," "Without Wood," "Best Quality"
1/24/10 = "Magpies," "Waiting Between the Trees," "Double Face," and "A Pair of Tickets"

Here's what to include with each of your posts:

1. Create a title for each posting that grabs attention (be creative!)
2. State the chapter you are focusing on.
3. REACTIONS & QUESTION THE TEXT: Write down your reactions (thoughts and emotions) to this chapter (characters, events, etc.). What did you think and why? What questions come to mind?
4. Choose a CHARACTER to focus on. Identify something this character does in this chapter and explain what that action reveals about him or her as a person.
5. What is the main CONFLICT in the chapter and does it get resolved by the end? Is it internal or external, human vs. self, vs. society, vs. nature, vs. human and how do you know?
6. One Essential Question: Choose AT LEAST ONE of our essential questions to answer for each chapter:
a. What is the THEME or life lesson in this chapter and which line or scene reveals this?
b. What objects are mentioned in this chapter and what could each one SYMBOLIZE?
c. How is this chapter connected to the allegory at the start of the section?
d. What WRITING TECHNIQUE do you notice Amy Tan really using in this chapter and how does it improve the story? (Flashbacks, foreshadowing, imagery, word choice, similes, metaphors).

SHARE YOUR REACTIONS, IDEAS, INTERPRETATIONS. SHOW YOUR BRILLIANCE. HELP OTHERS LEARN. HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. HAVE FUN!
